The aim of the study is to examine the issues and challenges faced by the Election Commission of Pakistan in ensuring free and fair elections and identifying their solutions. Pakistan’s electoral history has been significantly impacted by interventions, legal manipulations, and irregularities, leading to a decline in public trust regarding the fairness and transparency of elections. Early elections were often indirect or held under restricted franchises, and military governments further disrupted the democratic process. Allegations of rigging have plagued numerous elections throughout Pakistan’s history, undermining the credibility of the electoral system. A qualitative research method is used to proceed and draw conclusions to do awareness about the Role of Election Commission in ensuring free elections. The study reveals that ECP faces significant Challenges concerning its autonomy, perceived impartiality and public trust. Also, allegations of political manipulation, staffing issues and politicized appointments undermine its ability to conduct free and fair elections. The study also suggests that the existing election laws should be reviewed and amended to remove flaws that enable manipulation. Implementing an accessible and easy voter registration process for all citizens, will enhance fairness, inclusivity and public trust in ECP by addressing concerns of political interference.
